Have you ever attended a networking event and felt awkward when other people tried to immediately sell you something? If so, you don’t want to do that to other people. What can you do instead? Serve others.

That’s what I discussed in this episode of 8 Unedited Minutes with serial entrepreneur Orly Amor.

Start by generating a positive impact on every person you meet. You’re making an impact on them whether you like it or not, so it may as well be a positive impact.

An impact is not just a single impact, it’s a ripple effect. Who will the other person impact because of their meeting with you? That’s living the pay it forward mantra.

You need to understand the difference between serving and selling. Selling is selling. Serving is giving without an expectation of anything in return. When Orly serves somebody, she wants to give them something with added value. She asks them what she can do to help them right now. It could be as simple as telling them a joke to snap them out of a bad mood or just a smile. Most people don’t understand how much you can impact someone’s life just by being yourself and not trying to sell them something.

Building a Business While Serving

If the conversation isn’t about selling, what should it be about? It’s about how you can support the other person. So how do you build a business if you’re focused on giving without expectations of something in return? The boomerang effect.

Orly believes that when you serve other people the universe will send value back to you, either through the other person or through someone unexpected. This means you can stay laser focused on your goals and ambitions without trying to sell to everyone you meet. If you try too hard to sell someone and they don’t need your product or service, you run the risk of burning a bridge. If you serve other people, you create the opportunity that they or someone else will eventually help you build your business. When you don’t expect everyone to give you something the universe will give you something.

How Do You Achieve Goals Without Expectations?

Orly’s only expectations of achieving her goals are expectations of herself. She doesn’t have expectations of other people helping her achieve her goals. Yet the universe provides for her. This means that you need to stay laser focused on what needs to be done and then do it. Create a plan and follow it. Don’t keep changing your plans because then the universe doesn’t know what to give you. If you stay laser focused and do the work, you’ll achieve your goals.

“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
