Networking in the “new normal” means lots of Zoom time. But is time spent effectively? Does having 20+ Zoom calls a week sound familiar? Answering two simple questions will let you know if you’re building relationships or just spinning your wheels.

How many of the networking calls that you’re having are “one-and-done”, one time only calls? Meaning if there’s not immediate collaboration opportunities you move on to the next shiny object in hopes of building your business?

How many of the networking calls that you have are second, third, fourth or more calls with the same person? THAT’S relationship building done right. With entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial people our networks and our needs are changing every 30ish days which means new challenges and opportunities are on our plates.

I fell into the “one-and-done” trap. For too long in my book. Luckily a friend asked me that second question and I started focusing on reconnecting with the people that already know, like and trust me while meeting a few new people along the way. You know, meaningful relationship building.

It’s made a world of difference, and if this resonates with you, hopefully it will help you successfully – here’s that word – pivot your networking efforts and build more valuable relationships.
